Where has the magical developed in the age of digital social transformation? How does the hybrid present affect collective sensory experiences and rituals? Is it the apps and devices of everyday life in which the magic of the present lies dormant? Or has the extinction of humanity through artificial intelligence become a more realistic future scenario for many than the overcoming of capitalism? And what spaces can a post-colonial and anti-capitalist reference to the magical (re)open up? In the face of a dysfunctional social system characterized by ecological and economic exploitation and the massive persistence of colonial structures right up to the present day, the HAU festival "Geister, Dschinns & Avatare" sets out in search of strategies of (re-)enchantment and spans an arc between material and immaterial, between analogue and digital worlds, between dance, performance, theater, music, film, games, visual arts and net art. Magic and technology are not understood as opposing, mutually repulsive poles, but as coexisting factors of a present that needs to be changed for the sake of the future using all available means.
